so proud...

i mentioned a school project the last time and i felt i have to share this with the world as i'm so proud of what my students did! well, first things first, yes, i'm a teacher, teaching the most amazing teenagers ever (well, that said, not always) :-)

last term we've read 'tsotsi' by athol fugard and talked a lot about south africa. i felt we had to do something, which makes the people's situation in south africa easier to grasp for the students and thought about taking part in a charity project. on the internet i found this charity. in a nutshell i introduced the class to the project, all of them agreed to give it a go and i taught them how to crochet.

we started in september 2010 and set the deadline end of december. i expected to get something like twenty squares but the girls (and even the two guys) really got into it, asked moms and grannys and in the end we collected 137(!) squares, which i will send to south africa next week. i'm so proud!

so, if you're looking for a charity project or a good reason for knitting or crochetting, give knit-a-square a go...

beim letzten mal habe ich ein schulprojekt erwähnt, das ich gerne mit der welt teilen möchte, da ich so stolz bin. zunächst, ja ich bin lehrerin an einem gymnasium und unterrichte unglaublich tolle teenager (also, nicht immer) :-)

im letzten semester lasen wir gemeinsam 'tsotsi' von athol fugard und diskutierten viel über süd afrika. lange habe ich überlegt, dass wir etwas machen sollten, das den schülern die situation der menschen in süd afrika näher bringt. nach einiger recherche habe ich diese charity organisation gefunden und war sofort begeistert! in wenigen worten: ich habe die idee den schülern vorgeschlagen, sie waren sofort begeistert und nach einer kurzen einführung ins häkeln waren alle dabei.

das projekt startete im september 2010 und die deadline wurde für ende dezember angesetzt. ich habe insgeheim mit etwa 20 squares gerechnet aber die schülerinnen (und auch die jungs) mobilisierten mammis und omas und zum schluss konnten wir 137(!) squares sammeln, die ich nun kommende woche nach süd afrika senden werde. ich bin so stolz!

wenn ihr einen guten grund zum stricken oder häkeln sucht oder eine gute sache unterstützen möchtet, wäre knit-a-square vielleicht eine idee...
